What is an annex to an apartment lease agreement and what is it for?
An annex is an addendum to an existing lease agreement that allows the terms of the lease to be changed or supplemented, such as:
a change in the amount of rent,
an extension or change of the duration of the lease
an agreement on additional terms of the lease.
When you use an annex, the existing contract remains legally valid and every change is clearly documented.
Does an annex to an apartment lease agreement have to be certified by a notary public?
For an ordinary annex, certification is not required by law, as a written document signed by both parties is sufficient.
However, if you want additional security, the annex can be notarially solemnized before a notary public, in which case it acquires the force of an enforcement instrument and makes it easier to enforce your rights if the rent is not paid or a dispute arises.
