Resignation letter – example is a bundle of three ready-made templates covering every situation in which an employee ends the employment relationship. Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between regular and extraordinary termination?
Regular termination is the standard way of ending an employment relationship, in which the employee observes the notice period (from 2 weeks to 3 months depending on length of service). No reasons need to be given. Extraordinary termination is used when the employer seriously breaches its obligations, for example by failing to pay wages, engaging in workplace bullying or endangering safety at work. In that case the employee does not have to observe the notice period and the employment relationship ends immediately.
Can I use a mutual termination agreement instead of resigning?
Yes, if both parties agree. A mutual termination agreement is a voluntary act and is often the best solution when relations are good. However, it is important to know that an employee who signs a mutual termination agreement is as a rule not entitled to unemployment benefit from the HZZ (Croatian Employment Service), except in exceptional circumstances.
Do I have to hand in my resignation in person?
You do not have to, but handing it over in person against a signed acknowledgement of receipt is the safest option. Alternatively, you can send it by registered post with a return receipt. E-mail without an advanced electronic signature is not a sufficiently secure method of delivery. The notice period starts to run on the day the resignation is delivered to the employer.
