Ravna Gora is a municipality in Gorski Kotar, in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. It lies in the central part of Gorski Kotar on a plateau at an average altitude of 775-910 metres, from which it is said to have taken its name (the Church of St. Teresa of Avila stands at 825 m above sea level). The whole Ravna Gora field was once dense forest surrounded by hills. The Municipality of Ravna Gora comprises the settlements of Kupjak, Leskova Draga, Ravna Gora, Stari Laz, Stara Sušica and Šije. The exact date Ravna Gora was founded is not known: it is believed its beginnings predate the building of the Karolina road, first in Vrh (part of Ravna Gora) and then at the site where it stands today. The place initially had a few houses connected by an ordinary track. The seat of today's Municipality is at Ulica Ivana Gorana Kovačića 177. Municipality Day is celebrated on 15 October, and the patroness of the Municipality is St. Teresa of Avila.
