Ogulin is located in the center of Croatia, halfway between Zagreb and Rijeka, between the Plitvice Lakes National Park (to the south), the forested Gorski Kotar (to the northwest) and the northern Adriatic (to the west). It arose in a spacious basin through which two rivers flow: Dobra and Zagorska Mrežnica.
Ogulin grew up around a fortress built by the noble Frankopan family at the end of the 15th century.
