Owner’s consent for residence registration – a professional template in Word format

An owner’s consent for the registration of residence or temporary residence is a written statement by which the owner of a property allows another person to register at the address of his or her flat or house – most often a tenant, a family member or a person living there on some other basis. Without that statement, registration at someone else’s address is as a rule not possible, because the application must be accompanied by proof that the owner knows about the registration and approves it.

The registration and deregistration of residence and temporary residence is governed by the Residence Act (Zakon o prebivalištu). Form of the consent and the registration deadline

The registration is filed with the police administration or station competent for the address of the property, on the prescribed form, within 15 days of taking up residence at the address or of a change of address. For registration at an address owned by another person, the Ministarstvo unutarnjih poslova (Croatian Ministry of the Interior) as a rule requires the owner’s consent with the signature certified by a notary public, or the owner’s personal attendance to give the consent on the record on presentation of an identity card. Practice may differ between police administrations, so check what is required at the competent station before you go.

Important: a registered residence gives the person no real rights whatsoever over the flat. Registration is a matter of record keeping, not a basis for using or owning the property.
