A statement under material and criminal liability is a written statement by which a person confirms certain facts and accepts liability if they are untrue. Legal framework and certification

Certain bodies – courts, public law bodies, banks and funds – require the signature on the statement to be certified by a notary public. Before submitting it, check with the body to which the statement is being submitted whether certification is required and whether a special form is requested. Certification covers the signature, not the content of the statement, so all signatories should bring their identity cards and sign before the notary public. Under the Family Act (Obiteljski zakon), a cohabiting union is a union of an unmarried woman and an unmarried man which lasts at least three years, or less if a common child has been born in it or if it has continued through the conclusion of a marriage.
